Is the optical input on my Mac just as good as the Optical input on the M-Audio?

I've been asked that question a lot actually. The 410 vs Duet. Honestly I don't have a good answer. I do own the 410 for my live shows and it's been rock solid. The only thing that happened to it was a small screw on the front of the unit went missing. I called M-Audio to see about getting a replacement and not only did they send the screw but also a box of hats and shirts... all no charge! Because of my experience I know for sure the 410 is a good bet. The best thing is to buy from a place with a long return policy and if you don't like one or the other just switch it out.
About the optical input... in theory digital is digital 0110. So they should be the same. But that will only help you bring in audio thats already been converted.
